10th Anniversary Giveaway #5: A Bundle of My Three Books

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of C&Z, I am hosting 10 giveaways throughout the month of October. Keep checking back for chances to win cool prizes that have left a mark on me over the past decade!

Our fifth giveaway prize is a bundle of my three books:
– my latest book, The French Market Cookbook, celebrates the love story between French cuisine and vegetables,
– my first cookbook, Chocolate & Zucchini, illustrates the way Parisians cook today,
– my book on Paris restaurants and food shops, Clotilde’s Edible Adventures in Paris, provides invaluable tips on how to navigate the Paris food scene and make the most of your stay.

My publisher Clarkson Potter is offering to send you one copy of each of those three books. I myself will mail you signed bookplates in the name(s) of your choosing, so you can place them inside the books to personalize them. (Remember you can order signed bookplates at any time.)

    Oh, it’s tough one… All your recipes are beautiful and most of them (not containing meat) tempting for me! :)
    But if I have to choose only one, it would be definitely your egg custard. I don’t like using cornstarch when I bake or cook so this recipe was a lifesaver for me when I baked my first crumble last year. And it was delicious! :)

It always works as a quick, yummy dessert and a treat to end a long day teaching her students. After making your cookie recipe, I ground it up and processed it with a bit of oil to make her some homemade cookie butter, and it was gone before you can remember how to spell ‘speculoos’!

    I have made several recipes from the C&Z cookbook, but the most memorable for me are the chocolate and zucchini cake; the ricotta, apricot and pistachio cake; and the tomato and chorizo loaf. What can I say? I love baking cakes.

  • I took the French Market Cookbook with me to California to fill in the down time around a wedding that we were attending. Generally I think that vegans should be on the terrorist watch list but this is a vegetable cookbook from an omnivore. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, found it very well written with ingredients that most will find in the pantry.

    As for my favorite recipe, I am torn between the Corsican Turnovers with Winter Squash and the Asparagus Buckwheat Tart; given that asparagus is but a fond memory I think the Corsican Turnovers will have to come first.

  • My favourite recipe is yoghurt cake, which I have made with variations a few times since finding the recipe on your web site. I can’t believe that I’ve lived in France for 11 years and never come across it. Especially as I attend many “Auberge Espagnols” for my walking group meetings, and Occitan dance group Christmas and summer celebrations and the village Telethon lunch. My French friends are always eager to try English dishes, and I have done a workshop for them showing how to make mincemeat, mince pies and scones. When we are out walking all day, I make Nigel Slater’s light fruit cake for pud, which travels well and doesn’t make everything sticky.

It is not just the individual recipes that I come for, it is also general inspiration and positive, cheerful style of writing. I often find myself using the site as a reference book – when I want to make hummus, shakshuka or panzanella, I say to myself “let’s see how Clotilde makes this”! From the many recipes I have tried, I can name the tomato-feta dip – excellent way to bring in the fresh tomato flavour even in the winter months. Last time I used it for a quick pasta salad, adding some corn kernels and black olives.

    I have made the Pear and Chestnut Cake from the French Market Cookbook twice in the last month, using Asian pears which were windfall from the neighbors’ tree and almond meal in place of the chestnut flour. The first time I halved the recipe and baked it in a 6-inch pan for just the two of us (so adorable!) It was such a success that I baked a full-size version several days later to share with the neighbors!

    It’s funny, there are so many luscious recipes for delicious cookies, cakes, and savory delicacies, which I’d truly love to make… but don’t end up making. I do love to dream about making them though!
    What I do make are the simplest things it seems, but I am justly rewarded by the power of making something with perfectly in-season produce and nothing more than a few additional ingredients. So, in this category goes a recipe that I ended up making for myself for as many breakfasts, snacks, and desserts that I could get rhubarb for: the Poached Rhubarb and Orange recipe. I had a thing for rhubarb after that and it prompted me to try my own creativity in mixing rhubarb with other seasonal fruits. Fabulously simple and delectable recipe that improved many of my days! I love working with scone dough & loved the introduction to chickpea flour. I’ve tried variations with cheddar and chive and one with mushrooms but I’ve never quite topped the original recipe.     What comes to mind first is not so much a recipe but something you noted years ago on your blog. You talked about how to slice a baguette for tartines by cutting it in half horizontally from the top so that you don’t have a bottom crust and a top crust but you have half of each.     Crumpets—you took a British recipe by way of King Arthur ( American) made it in Paris and I have stolen it back by way of California and our sourdough.
