Bold flavors and a unique texture for chocolate lovers
Taza is the American bean-to-bar company that first got me excited about American chocolate years ago.
Why I Love This
I have tasted many chocolates from some of the best artisans during my long career as a chocolate lover, but my first bite of a Taza bar got me hooked beyond all hope. The bold flavors and rustic texture make their products stand out in a long-lasting way, and whenever I travel to the US, I always bring back as large a stash as I can reasonably carry. My favorite bar is the 80% Dominican, and I am very fond of the chipotle chili and salted almond Mexicano discs.
When it comes to chocolate, ethics are an essential part of the equation, and I support Taza’s commitment to direct trade and sustainability.
What you should know about Taza chocolate
Using vintage equipment and granite millstones inspired by the rich chocolate tradition of Mexico, this Massachusetts-based manufacturer handcrafts powerfully flavorful chocolates from sustainably grown and organic cacao beans sourced through their direct trade program.
Their chocolate bars retain a slightly gritty texture that is absolutely irresistible, and they also make one-of-a-kind chocolate discs flavored with chili, salted almond, or cinnamon, so you can prepare your own Mexican-style hot chocolate (it’s okay to just snack on those, too).
Since they process their own chocolate right from the bean, their roasted cacao nibs are exceptionally fresh, and indeed they offer a whole range of baking products that will bring your chocolate cakes and cookies to a whole new level.
Note: Due to the freshness of their chocolates, Taza only ships to addresses in the United States at this time (with bike delivery to orders made locally).
